Fix
Fix is a photographic project inspired by a personal diary that was discarded and then found in a Pacific Northwest national forest. The contents of the diary offer a firsthand glimpse into the life of a woman lost in addiction. Through this project, I unearth and interpret themes that are central to the woman’s struggle as well as her dreams and desires. The resulting project blends fact with fiction – is there anyone who doesn’t blur the lines between what is true and what we want to be true?
This project serves as an artistic conduit between the viewer and someone struggling to exist in the margins of society. It is a window into a life ruled by the iron fist of addiction, but it serves as a mirror for the universal struggle to see our own faults and apply solutions to our problems. This account of a drug-driven lifestyle is dark and despairing yet pierced by hope. My intent is to promote awareness about the humanity, albeit imperfect, behind addiction and explore our vulnerabilities through one woman’s desperate situation.
